The current COVID-19 pandemic has caused mass social and economic disruptions around the world, including one of the largest global recessions since the Great Depression. Its rapid appearance has led to the cancellation of many sporting and cultural events, famines affecting millions of people,
and widespread resource shortages, particularly in hospitals and medical centers around the world. In June of 2020, I have been given the opportunity to work with the Stollery Children’s Hospital’s ENT clinic to design and manufacture protective covers for equipment routinely used in the operating theatre. The equipment designed for were their operating room microscopes, endoscope monitors, television and DELL computer monitors. The covers are meant to aid in mitigating the spread of harmful airborne particles and droplets on parts of the equipment during endoscopic & surgical procedures.
